My own, Project 365

Between school, work, family and girlfriends (just kidding, there’s only one), sometimes I can be a little neglectful of my camera.  Well I am going to try and be a little bit more proactive with a “photo-a-day” project for a whole year, maybe longer if I get into it. Today being my birthday (3/13), this is a little gift that I am going to give to myself, which may not seem like a lot right now but I know at the end of the year I will be thanking myself that I did it. New Think Tank Retrospective Bags, They Seem To Have Done It Again

New Think Tank Retrospective Bags, They Seem To Have Done It Again

On Think Tank’s website they just released their new camera bag line: Retrospective.  They are designed to be plane Jane camera bags, “purposefully simple, allowing photographers to inconspicuously blend into their shooting environment.  What impresses me the most though is that you can see immediately, the customer input that Think Tank actually takes to heart and implements into their products. Lowepro Primus AW Backpack: A Great Travel Companion

Lowepro Primus AW Backpack: A Great Travel Companion

A little over a year ago I received the Lowepro Primus AW backpack as a going-away gift for a semester abroad at the American University in Cairo, Egypt. The pack performed very-well with only a few minor drawbacks.
The Primus AW is the middle-child in Lowerpro’s line-up fitting between the Primus Minimus AW and the CompuPrimus AW and is priced for $200 at B&H but, can be had for around half that price on eBay. This bag is very well thought out and executed by Lowepro with very high quality of materials, zippers and buckles. Over half of it (51%) is made from Lowepro’s patented “cylcepet” which is a plus for the environmentally friendly. Additionally, with every bag purchase from the Primus series, Lowepro makes a donation to Polar Bear International. (more…)

Strobist.com, Blowing My Mind with Light

I am fairly new to the art of photography and although I have been learning a lot and making some pretty cool advancements I am far from being an expert by any means, a student. One of my more recent advancements is making and controlling light. Until recently I have been fearing the “manual” mode of my Canon 430EX II (more…)

Hoping for Unemployment

In the back stretch of my college career, with only a few more classes left, concerns like graduate school and what kind of career lay ahead of me come to mind. Over the years I thought I knew exactly what I would be doing: theology, social studies teacher, historical research and now to what I think to be my final decision, (photo)journalism. (more…)

Where are all the photos!? *UPDATE*

Although I am trying to update the most I can, you might notice that there are a few less images than I usually have. Unfortunately, as fate may have it, my DSLR bricked on me: won’t turn on, LCD screen is black and the viewfinder constantly reads “busy” even after a factory restart. So what am I doing? (more…)

Accidental Update

Finally getting settled after returning from the Middle East and getting comfortable with my old routine, I was looking to get back into updating the website. Unfortunately, probably due to the fact that I lost familiarity of the applications I use to maintain this site, I deleted my entire web directory. (more…)

John Isaac, UN Photojournalist

This passed weekend I was afforded the opportunity to attend a two-hour seminar with the accomplished photojournalist John Isaac (website). Coming to the United States in the 1960s, with not a dollar to his name, he landed a job as a printman in the dark room of the United Nations. (more…)

Siwa Oasis

Siwa Oasis

After my stay in Porto Marina and Alexandria, my friend Adam and I were feeling a bit adventurous and decided go to a place called the Siwa Oasis, about 90km from the Libyan border in the middle of the Great Sand Sea. We had spoken about if before and its isolation from modern Egyptian culture allured us, so we went ahead and made definitive plans with two others from our group. (more…)
